Wisconsin

If not the best, the biggest (pies)

I stumbled on a little back water town in Wisconsin last week that turns out to have perhaps the most famous pies in the land: the Norse Nook in Osseo, Wisconsin. Osseo is a couple of miles off of I-94, along US 10 (which sounds like a far more impressive road than it is). A typical very small mid western town with this unbelievable time warp of a whole in the wall restaurant. Prices are from 20 years ago; the pies are from this morning. Lemon meringue pies with the meringue stacked a good 12 inches, maybe more. Chocolate cream, banana cream, raisin, sour cream, rhubarb, pumpkin, various berries, and on and on. This is the kind of road food place you always thought was out there but just haven't found in decades of looking. Most definitely worth a visit when in the area.
