Thai Gate?

I ate at the Thai Gate last summer. It was pretty decent. In fact,
considerably more "interesting" Thai than most of the places I've been to
around here. As for it being empty... I dunno how one can even tell. It's
kind of a weird-looking building from outside, and has gone through many
incarnations (the most infamous of which was probably The Cricket).

Did have some pretty decent -and cheap- Thai at the Jai Thai in Fremont
the other night. The service was kind of brusque, but couldn't complain
 about the food.
