My girlfriend and I ate at this new mexican place tonight- what a surprise!

Totally wacky decor- like a campy interior decorator's fantasy of a 17th
century spanish palace- lots of gilt and so forth.

Completely unpredictable menu. I had a stuffed chile dish that had nuts,
pork and ground beef in it and a cranberry based cream sauce! Viv had a
stuffed chicken with almonds. Amazing. They had literally no dish I'd ever
tried before, and it all sounded deelish.

The food was almost technicolor, too: her sauce was bright even for a
Hollandaise, which it was not. I think these folks should be applauded for
taking the basic elements of mexican cuisine and getting wildly creative.
 I'll eat there again!

There's a balcony (it's the old Testarossa space) and in the back room is a
full bar - tended by a person of decidely indeterminate sex! The bill was
slightly spendy by mexican jernt standards, but this was a New Thing- a
mexican Concept Restaurant, and as concept restaurants go, this was aces
and a bargain in the deal.

It does seem in some way to be connected with the Galerias down by the
intersection of freeways and the Roanoke Tavern - there is a vinyl sign
advertising happy hour which uses a logo I've seen at that location.
