Spending quite a bit of time in Europe, I have come to love their THIN pizzas. I never quite understood the appeal of a pizza that weighs five pounds, four of it being cheese. Listening to everyone's opinions on pizza, I never felt comfortable with what I was hearing. Two events this week have made the difference. First, there was The Times review of August 1 on La Vita e Bella. Two restaurants side by side in Belltown, with one a cafe and the other a pizzaria. The other event was when the SBF said I get to choose dinner out on Saturday since it was my birthday, again. They never stop coming do they? Anyway, it turned out to be a fantastic choice. English seems to be the second language there. Italian, with a Sicilian accent is the language of the owners and waitstaff. It also turns out to be the language of many of the patrons as well. Dinner consisted of sharing Piatto Vegetale, grilled mixed veggies served at room temp. Was wonderful. It included a great version of Eggplant Caponetta. The individual pizzas were numerous to choose from, thin and served with a sharp knife and fork (no dotted lines to tear out a slice). The SBF had the Prosciutto e Funghi. It came with shrooms, prosciutto, mozzarella and tomato sauce. I opted for the Siciliana. It worked for me as I am a pushover for seafood pizza. It came with tuna, onions, Kalamata olives, capers and tomato sauce. Not a drop of cheese. For fellow seafood lovers, they also have a Scoglio: mussels, shrimp, calamari, garlic, parsley and tomato sauce. They even have an anchovy pizza:Napoletana: tomato sauce, capers, anchovies, garlic and oregano. And a good, reasonably priced wine list to boot. We will be back, soon. La Vita E'Bella 2407 Second Ave (between Bell and Battery). Rae, best you get Dave over there real soon!!!
