Ethiopian Food - Fasica

The Friday PI had a short article in the 'cheap eats'
section about Fasica Ethiopian Restarant, so we
decided to head to Colubmia City to try it (it's
at the intersection of Rainier Ave S and S. Edmunds
 street). Very casual, seat yourself,
with most of the other customers speaking what
I assume was Amharic. They have Soukous music
on weekends, but it hadn't started yet when we
 were there.

We tried the combination plate, a mixture of
vegetable dishes and various meats (lamb, beef,
chicken), similar to what we've had at other
Ethiopian places. The chicken and lamb were
excellent, the beef a little tougher than I
like but still good. The vegetables were
also good, I especially liked the red lentils.

Fasica definitely gets my vote. The only
other Ethiopian place in Seattle we've tried
is Kokeb, and between the two I definitely
prefer Fasica. The food was spicier and I
enjoyed the flavor quite a bit more.

In addition to great food, Fasica is also
quite cheap. The combination plate (plenty
of food for two people) and two non-
 alcoholic drinks came to $12.

I'm really pleased to see them getting publicity. I used to go there when
my best friend lived in Hilman City (just south of Columbia City) and I
always thought they were great, very friendly, and inexpensive. I've gone
to Kokeb and don't like it anywhere near as well. There is one other
Ethiopian that I think is still open - somewhere around MLK or 23rd and
Cherry. Can;t remember the name but enjoyed it.

Assimba is the Restaurant at Cherry and MLK. Excellent food/prices. There
is another place on 23rd at Cherry which I have not tried.

Addis is at 23rd and Cherry -- I haven't been there since June, but then
they had a new owner and had gotten an alcohol license, and best of all
 the food was still excellent.
