Etheopian Options?

I wrote a review recently of a wonderful experience at Asmara Eritrean
Restaurant. It also has Ethiopian food, which is very similar. When I went
back Sofia said that a number of people had come in after that post, and she
was extremely grateful. We enjoyed another delightful meal. I wouldn't call
it gourmet food at all, just basic good home cooking from another culture. I
delight in these little places, and am always dismayed at how quickly they
fail. I guess there just aren't enough people who enjoy inexpensive ethnic
food on more than an experimental basis. I really hope this place thrives.

Did others of you who went there have a good experience?

I noticed also a couple of blocks north of Asmara a sign on the Souk
advertising Ethiopian food. I haven't tried it, so can't offer an opinion. I
would be interested in how it is. Might check it out soon.

Assimba, at MLK and Cherry, is great. Friendly atmosphere, lots of food,
 fabulous doro tibs.

My favorite remains Kokeb on 12th (east of Seattle U.). Zula on John just east
of Broadway was disappointing (dried out injera and they don't give you much
plus more expensive and less food and not as tasty as Kokeb). I have heard
Fasica off Rainier (south) is wonderful although I haven't tried it myself. The
other place I have tried is on Jefferson or James just east of 12th (can't
remember name). It was good but not as satisfying as Kokeb.

I can wholeheartedly echo Jude's praise of Asmara. Really tasty,
satisfying Ethiopian/Eritrean food, by far the best I've had since
Axum closed in the U District.

Go there, stuff yourself, leave happy!
