OK you seattle.eats people, I expect an explanation for why this place has been recommended so often. I hope I got the name right - I'm talking about the place in Wallingford, just off of Stone Way and 45th. I dropped by there for takeout last Saturday night. I've been excited to try it for a while, but we were too tired to eat out. The place was pretty full, so I walked up to the desk to place my order. I should have been forewarned when it took them five minutes to talk to me. "No problem," I thought, "they're obviously busy because the food is so good." Here's the scoop after my 25 minute wait for the food (They told me it would be 10-15.) The egg flower soup was AWFUL. It was watery, over-eggy, and looked like it mainly consisted of FDC Yellow #4. The egg roll appetizer was this flat little greasy tube that looked like it came from one of those frozen entree boxes from the grocery store. Atop a bed of greasy salad clippings, I can't say that the presentation helped any. The mu shu was over salty. The pancakes were bland and plain. To top it off the sauce leaked through the paper bag and all over my car, staining my seats. While I waited for the food, patrons were continually coming to the front desk in effort to pay their bill. Most were obviously unhappy and wanted to leave. Many were coming up to get more water or whatever. I found the kitchen dirty and disgusting (I walked through on my way to the restroom.) What's up you guys? After all of the great things I've heard about this place, this is what I get? Not only was the food bad, the service was horrible! It looks like they totally outgrew their little operation, which is too bad, but I'm sorry to say I won't be going back. Pandasia is right down the street. At least the food is fresh and I know what I'm getting from them. Any comments?

The Bamboo GARDEN which everybody talks about is by the Seattle Center, on Roy and 3rd. And it is very good! All vegan menu (except the fortune cookies) ...try the Sweet and Sour "chicken"...outta this world.....or any of the Chinese green dishes. And the service at Bamboo Garden is usually pretty good, not the best service in the world, but good.
You certainly did get the wrong place. Bamboo Garden is great and it is directly north of Seattle Center. I have never been to Bamboo Terrace and I guess I won't be trying it. I like Bamboo Garden's food although I do sometimes miss garlic and onion (which they do not use). It is a great place to go if you are dining with vegans and omnivores. Many are fooled by the meat analogs. I hope Greg Sumner will try the real Bamboo Garden. Jennifer

For take-out, I'm still pining over the loss of Fuji on 45th! -Ray [email removed] http://www.speakeasy.org/~tabula
