La Taverna del Albardero at 18th and I Streets is wonderful -- "haute" Spanish cuisine, always delicious, with lovely ambiance. For cheaper Spanish, try Jaleo at 7th and E Streets, NW -- a good Tapas bar.

The Powerscourt in the Phoenix Park Hotel near Union Station (I think it's New Jersey Avenue at F Street, NW) is quite good for British-style food, and has the added plus of being upstairs from two Irish pubs. Up the street from the Phoenix Park is La Colline, one of the best French restaurants in DC, and significantly less expensive than Jean Louis at the Watergate.

Sarinah Satay House in Georgetown has great Indonesian food. The Bombay Palace on K Street at 20th is good for Indian. For good Lebanese, try The Bacchus near Dupont Circle. Cafe Mozart (New York Avenue near 13th Street) is good for basic, cheap German food.

For Italian, try Obelisk or Galileo near Dupont Circle (I prefer the latter).

Bon Appetit!
