The recurrent Italian thread

The Italian restaurant my husband and I always select on our infrequent "dates" is Floriana, an intimate restaurant with superlative food. It's convenient to many movie theaters, since it's at Wisconsin Avenue and, I believe, Fessenden (you should double check that). Anyway, it's only a couple of blocks either way from the Outer Circle and the Odeon. The food is wonderful, the portions more than generous, the service excellent. I recommend it highly.

Greg Diamond asks:

I'm looking for a nice Italian restaurant where my wife and I can
celebrate her birthday. ... We're looking to spend $60-70 (about $20 of
that in wine), and are probably most interested in the
Dupont-to-Tenleytown corridor or Georgetown... I've heard that I Ricci
is very good in G'town, but am not clear that it would fit financially.
Comments on this, and on other candidates, are welcome.

Galileo & Obelisk are probably out of range, too. Here are some less expensive options in the neighborhoods you mentioned:

Downstairs at Vincenzo, 20th & Q. One of DC's best italians has a "tratoria" downstairs that offers less expensive, but still excellent meals.

Primi Piatti on I St. Probably the best wine choices in your price range.

Sesto Senso, 18th & M. Best atmosphere in your price range (if you prefer modern to traditional decor)

Have a great time....

Larry
