Ladda Thai on Connecticut Ave just north of Van Ness (a stone's throw
south of the metro) should be on everyone's list. They've got the best Pad Thai in town, and they have a very friendly and accommodating staff - they'll always throw in some stir-fried veggies with any dish if requested. For example, I love their beef w/ basil (Panang Gai, isn't it?) dish because it's a perfect balance between the hot chilis and the aromatic basil with a stocky sauce that goes great with that extra bowl of rice (no charge, of course) - but it's got no veggies in it. So I ask them toss in some of your standard mixed veggies (broccoli, carrots, snow peas, cauliflower, etc.) along with it - no problem. Split that and an order of Pad Thai with your partner and you're in heaven.
Also, they have my favorite renditions of Satay, Larb, as well as some
deliciously delicate crab meat dumpling appetizers that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Cajun Bangkok. Serves great, original cajun and Thai food. (Not combined in the same dish...) I was skeptical for awhile just because of the name, but it has become one of my favorite places in Old Town. It is located on the north side of King Street, near Rt. 1.
