If you don't mind a ride in the country, one of the best brunch buys around is at Normandy Farms in Potomac. It's easy to find, you just go out River and then go right on Falls in Potomac Village, then it's a couple miles on Falls on your left.

They have a great variety of food--great smoked salmon, raw oysters and clams, several French-style ragouts, salads, roast beef, omelets to order, waffles to order, some of everything, and only $10.95 the least time I was there.

Enjoy, if you go let me know if you like it.

Checked out Cashion's Eat Place on Columbia Road in Adams Morgan today. Very impressed. Grilled pork chops with diced apple and sweet potato were excellent. Grilled, yet tender. Wife had trout -- also very good. For appetizers we tried a Louisiana style gumbo and goat cheese salad. All were done with good attention to detail. Portions were generous (except for the trout). Only complaint is that they don't have draft beer.

Based on just one visit, I recommend it heartily for brunch.

Do I remember correctly that Anne Cashion was the chef at Tabard Inn? There are a few parallels in the styles of the two places.

I've had some good brunches at Iota (23-something Wilson Blvd.), but they've also screwed up French toast orders once or twice. This was a while back and they haven't exactly gone out of business since, so hopefully they've gotten over that problem--especially since it's otherwise a great space, with just the right brunch atmosphere. (They xerox the crossword puzzle from the paper, so nobody need worry about having an excuse to waste the entire afternoon.)

My friend Mike, who may chime in here, says he likes the brunch next door at Whitlow's, so you might want to check that out as well.

Cheers,

Rob

I hear great things about Rhodeside Grill's brunches, but I've only eaten their (excellent) dinners. Web page is http://www.wdn.com/ems/rg
