You might want to experiment with the Casa Africana on Bonifant (I think). A tiny place in what looks like a renovated apartment, they serve up West African food. The staff is very pleasant, and the food is unlike anything I have had before. They have interesting steamed breads, smoked fish and beef stews, and some vegetarian dishes.

I second the recommendation on Casa Africana. Great food. Very courteous service unlike most restaurants in the DC area.

Try Mi Rancho, off the public parking lot on Cameron St (West of Georgia). Good Tex-Mex.
