You're going to get widely varying answers on this, since everyone who eats or cooks Indian food has his/her opinion on what constitutes good or bad..... but here's my 2 paise worth. :^>

I like Sidd ALOT. Granted it has no ambience (but it's alot cleaner and airier than their previous incarnation down the block), staff isnt particularly friendly, and the buffets have the usual problems (nothing tastes as good if it sits out too long), but the food is priced reasonably and usually is quite good. One should take into account that I'm addicted to South Indian stuff, like idlis and dosas and such, and Sidd is the most convenient place for me to indulge. I havent done a serious real-time taste-off with comparable veg S. Indian places in the area, such as Mela (Columbia) or Indian Delight (? the one in Union station & the old post office, owned by the same guy(s) who own Mela), so i cant say which is better in some absolute sense. Each has some unique dishes, and they're all pure vegetarian (not vegan, note). However, the Siddhartha in Silver Spring is better than the one downtown (the name has changed, but it's around 14th and K or Pennsylvania), IMHO.

It's at 14th and K, and it's called Balajee. The menu and staff stayed the same, except they eliminated all the non-vegetarian items.
