I posted some time ago about the incredibly bad service and bad attitude at Rock Bottom, and would like to offer an amendment to my original post. I am pleased to report that I have been back several times - because they were gracious enough to give us a $15 coupon to compensate for the bad service - and the service has improved substantially - although it still needs some work. However, since the food here is pretty good (try the salmon fish and chips, the great salads, the black bean soup), I'd recommend the place. I haven't tried the beers since I'm not a fan of frou-frou beer (why ruin a good beer with cranberry or coconut?), but friends say it is pretty good. In several visits since the disaster, we've had no problems with them being out of anything, or the wrong things showing up at the table. However, the service is still of the overly-friendly, intrusive nature. If a waiter happens to have a great personality, he/she can pull that off, and they do have one terrific waiter who is obviously a natural "people person." However, for anyone else, that kind of behavior is forced and uncomfortable, and it makes customers uncomfortable, too. One waiter was practically shouting at us and driving us nuts, trying to get us to engage in banter with him and constantly interrupting our conversation. Still, all in all, I recommend a visit to the Rock Bottom - even with all the fantastic restaurants in Bethesda, it still merits a visit. Ellen Paul
