Meskerem (on 18th Street in Adams Morgan). Meskerem is where my Ethiopian friends eat when they want a great authentic meal. In the loft, you will sit on pillows and eat out of a big table-basket. There are no utensils, you pick up the food with the soft sheets of bread whose name I forget.

I must agree about Meskerem - I love the loft as well, although Zed's Ethiopian Cuisine is pretty good, as well.

Also, if anyone is interested, the Washingtonian Magazine now has a Web page that lists their 100 best restaurants in the DC Metropolitan area. In general, they are right on about the food, and they have breakdowns by regions, price, and cuisine.

The site is: http:/www.infi.net/washmag/restaurants/vbintro.html

Happy eating! BTW, I am also a D.C. native.
