The absolute best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at (anywhere) is Filomena's in Georgetown. Haven't been there in a few years, but others have said it is still great. This would be a memorable meal. More recently, Taverna Kretika in Old Town Alexandria served me great Greek food. Also recently, the Red Sea for Ethiopian and a Lebanese place whose name escapes me also are to be recommended. Both are in Adams Morgan, which is chock full of all sorts of ethnic choices. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin J. The Lebanese place is probably "Skewers" on "P" Street NW. Hope you find this useful.... John John H. Taylor E. I. DuPont de Nemours & Company, Inc. I've been out so I may have missed some earlier replies but let me say that you MUST eat at Red Sage in downtown DC. They definitely use fresh ingredients, to say that the menu is interesting is an understatement and it will definitely be memorable. My wife and I spent $100 there a couple of weeks ago (without wine) but it was possibly the most interesting meal we've ever had and one of the best. The food is southwestern, but unlike anything you've likely had in the past. -- Bill [email removed]
Italian: Although it costs $$$$, Galileo (near 20th and P Str., NW D.C.) offers a new menu daily, fresh ingredients and good service. Call and get a table; it's normally quite crowded. Afghani: Bamiyan II (300 King Str., Old Town Alexandria) recently got a new chef and some friendly waiters. Unitl recently their service and food was indifferent. I ate there last Friday and it was delicious! A dinner for two with wine and dessert will run ~$70.00.
