Speaking of French restaurants what are the best French restaurants and bistros in your area?

I like Le Cote^ D'Azure at near the Arlington/East Falls Church line. I had an entree of wonderfully crusted Chilean sea bass filet with a green sauce and julienned vegetables that was very savory and satisfying. The ambience of the place is nice also. Just the right not too gaudy, homey, but not down at the heels, fancy and warming atmosphere.

I had that or a similar fish, perhaps flounder, at Gerard's at McPherson Sq. for lunch that was very good, but the price was better at Le Cote^.

What's your favorite and why?

Bon appetit,

Elliott: just so people don't get confused, I think you are referring to La Cote D'Or. I agree that it is very good. I work near there and we go to La Cote D'Or for special lunches.

Our current favorite is Frogs and Friends in The Plains (or perhaps Marshall -- it's sort of between the two). Very good food and a pleasant atmosphere, and a nice reasonably-priced wine list. (Mind you, we live in Haymarket, so this is pretty local for us.) I just heard today that a chef who'd been at L'Auberge Chez Francois has joined them as executive chef -- I think Jean Michel is his name.
