The only Ethiopian restaurant I know of with ANY ambience is Meskerem. The food is good at Zed's and the Red Sea as well.

I prefer Meskerem to Red Sea. Better food and nicer surroundings.

Actually there is also a 3rd restaurant in Adams Morgan that people don't talk about very much that I like called Fasikas. The ambiance is certainly better than (pardon me if I get the two confused) Red Sea but not quite as nice as Meskerem. The food is good.

You've heard plenty about the big names in Ethiopian food. I've eaten at Meskerem most recently, and it does have a nice atmosphere, especially if you sit upstairs on the stuffed cushions. I haven't eaten at Fasika's, but I've looked in, and it's very attractive. If you know and like Ethiopian food, though, you need to just come down and wander up and down 18th St. in Adams Morgan. There are several other Ethiopian restaurants, including a couple of Eritrean ones that seem to have quite different menus from the rest. The two Eritrean ones that I know of are on Florida Ave, a couple of doors east of 18th St. Dahlak is a sort of bar/restaurant -- I forget the name of the other one -- it looked more like a sandwich shop.
