Right in my neighborhood, so I guess I should know what I'm talking about for a change :)

Cheap places I've eaten at and liked:

* Iota, towards Clarendon on Wilson Blvd. next to the old Sears building (brunch is better than lunch; last time I was there service was flakey, but it was great the time before.)

* Delhi Dhaba, right across the street from the empty lot next to Courthouse Plaza, has incredibly cheap and good Indian food (~$5 for the dinner special!) in a cafeteria-type format.

* Village Bistro, down the hill from the Metro at the intersection of Wilson and Quinn, is a bit pricier but more than worth it.

* The Little Cafe (next to the restaurants you described) has gotten some bad reviews for dinner, but I've had brunch there and it was fine.

* Pizza de Resistance, 2300 Clarendon Blvd. What California Pizza Kitchen does, except they've been doing it for years and years here. Great variety of eccentric toppings.

* RT's Seafood Kitchen, 2300 Clarendon. Outstanding Cajun food, terrific service.

* The Sugar Shack (below Go! Compact Disks at the intersection of Franklin Road and Wilson Blvd.) doesn't quite count as a restaurant--it's only got a few quiches and salads, plus some incredible desserts--but it's worth stopping by for dessert or, of course, coffee. Wacky neo-'50s-kitsch interior.

People have also written great things about Cafe Festival and L'Alouette, two places next to the post office. Also, you should stoll over to Clarendon (only a half mile away) and check out the restaurants there. There seem to be more good Vietnamese places per square foot there than anywhere else around the D.C. area. Queen Bee, Cafe Dalat, and Little Viet Garden get consistently good reviews; all are in the strip across from the new building by the Metro stop. There's also a Red Hot & Blue Express, the Hard Times Cafe (great chili) and a terrific Cuban restaurant at 3100 Clarendon Blvd.

(Now I remember where all my paychecks have been going <g>)

Good luck,

Rob
