I've said this before, but I'll say it again: one of the best values in the city is ordering the raw hamburger, ERM ..., steak tartare for lunch at Les Halles. It is the exact same portion that you get for dinner, but at about half the price -- about $12.50 vs. about $25.00, although I can't remember the exact figures. It comes with terrific french fries (oh, excuse me: pommes frites), and is more food than one person can possibly eat. I tried to order one to go once, and they wouldn't let me do it -- I guess they don't want some moron leaving it sit out all day, eating it, getting Guinea Worm, and then filing a lawsuit. :-)

: I enjoyed that very meal (for dinner, though -- I think it's only $17 or : $19, not $25) last night. It's one of my favorite meals in town.

Someone else also Emailed me and pointed out my error in the dinner price. Apologies. But, at $17-19 it's even more of a bargain! :-) Again, the $12-13 lunch price is a downright steal.

: with a lot of crap before making a fuss), and the result was a replay of : one of my favorite scenes from "The Bob Newhart Show": It came back : looking as if someone had taken a blow torch to it. There was no pink to : be seen anywhere. (They did, however, freshen up the salade and frites.)

Ouch! Well, all the more reason to order the tartare. :-)

: I finished up, and we were both in the mood for dessert, when the owner : (at least a guy who looks and acts as if he owns the place, and the one : who did the tableside preparation of my steak tartare) showed up with a : new steak, perfectly cooked, with yet a *third* helping of salad and : fries.

.. now this is getting funny.
