Let me try and fill in with some small, moderate priced, chef-run places. Several storefront places on West Main St. Including: Avalon Davis and Main Santa Fe Southern Culture In "Carytown" Cary Cuisine The Track No padded chairs, just hard seats and booths, but real interesting New American cooking at all of these.
THE FROG AND THE REDNECK Is a new restaurant that opened up last year. It has a relaxed atmosphere and the food is simply amazing. Reservations are needed, I believe. It was named in Esquire Magazine as one of the best new restaurants in the US. The $35 tasting menu is a very good buy.

My wife and I have eaten there and we had a very enjoyable dinner. The food was excellent.
It's been a couple of years since I ate there, but it still has a good reputation. There's a very positive review -- about a year old I think -- at http://www.myrichmond.com/food/review.cfm?id=88 published in Richmond's Style Weekly. I have this memory that I heard that Michael Hall was now cheffing somewhere else, but I can't seem to track it down. Maybe somebody out there can help?
