Best Restaurants in Virginia?

Best restaurant in Virginia????

Here are my thoughts:

1. The Inn at Little Washington	Washington, Va.

Maybe the best restaurant in the US...headed by one of it's finest chefs.

2. The Frog and the Redneck Richmond, Va.

Interesting Decor (Cartoon drawings)...the tasting menu is one of the better bargains.

3. Clifton Country Inn Charlottesvile, Va.

One of the best restaurants in a city with several good restaurants. Not really in Charlottesvile, closer to Fluvanna. The chef introduces the prix fixe menu before service. Graduation reservations made several months in advance.

4. The Trellis Williamsburg, Va.

Yup, the "Death by Chocolate" guy is the chef. Desserts are great. The lunch is actually a good buy.

5. Peking Gourmet Inn Falls Church, Va.

Being Chinese, I feel it is my duty to place a Chinese restaurant in this list. Former President Bush's favorite restaurant, the photos outside are a who's who in politics. Their Peking Duck is the best duck I've had period!!! And I've had Peking Duck in NYC, SF, Hong Kong...and yes Peking. Very light and crispy...no grease. I asked the manager one day how many ducks they serve a night...he said 500-600. It's that good.

6. The Homeplace Catawba, Va.

Having grown up in Blacksburg and done my undergrad at Va. Tech, I didn't realize how much I missed this restaurant. Hidden in the valley between Blacksburg and Roanoke, this is a no nonsense restaurant that serves food...southern family style. You walk in (after a 1-2 hour wait in line) they give you one choice of ham or roast beef...then the food begins...fried chicken, potatoes, veges, the works, then cobbler for dessert....all you can eat. Fast courteous service always..very picturesque setting...at $7.95 it's the best bang for the buck meal I've ever had. This restaurant probably doesn't deserve to be ranked as high as #6 with the other great restaurants around Va. which I'm forgetting. But, this is one of the few restaurants that I really miss.

*All of the above SIX restaurants, I have eaten at. Here is an honorable mention list...most I've eaten at....some I have not, but have heard good things about:

Boars Head Inn Charlottesville
Dumb Waiter Norfolk
The Ship's Cabin Norfolk
C&O (bistro) Charlottesville
Regency Room/Hotel Roanoke	Roanoke (closed for a while now) L'auberge chez franscois	Great Falls????? Dynasty (Canton. Dim Sum)	Falls Church Mortons of Chicago (Chain)	Tyson's Corners Anchy's	(free advertising)	Blacksburg Mountain Lake Hotel (brunch)	Giles County

Well, there's my best stab at answering the question. By no means is this list exhaustive...and I'm sure I've left off some noteworthy restaurants...so don't flame me.

My two favourite restaurants that I found in my two years there were

Le Charlieau and La Galleria. They are both in Norfolk on College Place within walking distance from Waterside (a high class shopping mall of sorts)

The first is a french restaurant built in a reconstructed house, while the second it italian with a piano player, a classy bar, and a very mediterreanean decor. They are my two favorite restaurants in the seven states I have been to.
