I lived in Waterbury for 2 years. During this time I spent a year going to school in Burlington while my wife attended the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier.

In Burlington there is a great, reasonably-priced Indian Restaurant. Take the road from Burlington to Winooski and the restaurant is on a corner at the University's NW end.

Noonie's Deli was a favorite of mine for lunch, but a tunafish sub may not be what you have in mind. You could put together a nice picnic basket at Noonie's then head off to Smuggler's Notch for the day.

Bove's is the quintessential cheap Italian scarf. For =~ $5 you can get a very hearty, quite good pasta meal. Go for the read sauce with garlic! Well, maybe not, this is your honeymoon afterall. Anthony's is comparable but I prefer Bove's.

In Stowe go to the Stoweaway Inn for Mexican food. They do a remarkably good job for East coast Mex! So I was told the proprietor learned to cook Mex in Montana. This is the best Mexican food I have had in the east. It holds its own with the west.

The town just west of Waterbury has a restaurant/cabins establishment called Camp Meade. This place is adorned with Sherman Tanks, machine guns, and other implements of death. The motif is also done in the restaurant. For breakfast you can load up on a lifetime's quota of cholesterol for a song. You also get treated to unyielding cigarette smoke. Seriously, though, we LIKED to go here occasionally. It's just such a strange place!

In Montpelier NECI has two restaurants. Both can be quite good or merely passable depending on which students are working the kitchen. Sorry, but I can't remember the restaurants' names anymore! The yellow restaurant is a tad less fancy and a very good deal for lunches. Come to think of it, the college has expanded to Essex Jct. They now have The Inn at Essex which may be worth looking into.

Hope this helps,
Rich
