Some of my favorites in London (caveat lector...I left London in 1991 -- call first!)

Kensington Place
Boyd's
Clarke's

(All on Kensington Church Street, in Notting Hill Gate, so I used to live in this neighborhood I'm biased. All pricey, Boyd's food is especially exquisite, Clarke's is very Californian)

Other random recommendations come to mind re: eating and drinking:

Good tapas at Bar Gansa, in Camden Town
Spectacular Indian at Star of India, Old Cromwell Road (I think), South Kensington Great fantastic Thai at Sri Siam, Old Compton St., Soho, also for Thai I don't think one can go wrong at the Blue Elephant in Fulham or even Bahn Thai, also in Soho (Frith St.) Orso near Covent Garden for rather ritzy Italian food I like very much (others on this newsgroup don't if I recall correctly) Menage a Trois I enjoyed for a special occasion, unusual food and very pricey, in Knightsbridge, I have a feeling it is not still around.

Now I hope the very helpful Mr. Taylor will show up to help you with his great UK Restaurant Reviews, but I have seen him over in uk.politics celebrating the outcome of the Local Elections, so let me know if you don't hear from him and I'll send you the material he posted here recently.

Regards, happy travels,
Sue
