San Frediano, Fulham Road-We've been there dozens of times for lunch and dinner and consider it one of the best italian restaurants in the world.

A good meal can be had for 10 pounds or so. Jim Best ([email removed])

Yikes. is it still open, used to go there donkeys years ago and it was very good but then it changed hands and the last I heard it had gone down hill rapidly. Must take another look. BTW - Leonardo's in the Kings Road (near World's End) was another my favourites, as was The Rosetti in St John's Wood. Thanks Wagamama, a Japanese-noodle house with an attitude, and not terribly far from the British Museum - not a long walk southwest of it, but I don't have the address handy - is worth finding. The line will be out the door, but it moves quickly. The prices are quite reasonable, and the various ramen and soba dishes are quite good. The folks who run the place make quite a bit of a fuss over applying 'kaizen' to running the place - yes, a restaurant that attempts to employ the corporate concept of continuous quality improvement. Somebody else has mentioned Belgo, in Chalk Farm road, and only a short walk from Chalk Farm Underground station. By all means, go. Great moules & frites, and lots of good Belgian beers. Veeraswamy is a rather upscale Indian place, not far from Picadilly Circus Underground station. It's been in business for over 70 years. Go for the lunch buffet, if nothing else; it may not be the cheapest around, but it is actually quite good. Lunch at the Prospect of Whitby is a good bet, as are good roast-beef dinners at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, for good pub food. Don.

When you get to town buy Fay Maschler's Evening Standard Guide to London Restaurants and also Harden's London Restaurant Guide. The recently published Zagat Guide to London is also reliable. A fine recommendation, but expect to pay £30+ a head. Nearer £20 would be possible at lunchtime with very little drink.

When the suggestion was posted, I thought to myself "Wonderful place, but I've never gotten out of there for £20". I thought maybe it was just me, or I was remembering badly. Article 279 of uk.food+drink.restaurants:
If you fancy a bloody good Chinese meal and your in the Bromley/Westerham area, try the Yangtse at Keston. We discovered it by a lucky mistake and have tried it twice; we will be going back pretty regularly. The resturaunt is on the village green in a converted house next to the pub. The food is exeptionally flavoursome and the atmosphere is so relaxed and freindly. Go on...give it a go but try and get there around 7.00pm.
