If that's what it's > called! The "two weeks after CNY" thing :-) You lucky so & so.... yes i think it's commonly called the lantern festival or the 15th night festival to celebrate the end of CNY. But i think it's celebrated more by people from the TeowChu dialect group hence in Taiwan. I saw my nephew a few years ago, he had a battery operated lantern that had a selection of noise effects & songs & had multi coloured disco lights flashing. back in my day.... we only had paper lanterns & some kids even had to make their own! > As for me being a food correspondent - I'm probably not discerning > enough. I love food and tend to eat almost anything. I'm definitely > more of an eater than a cooker! This isn't really the right thread > title for me to go off on a tangent, but I live near Soho so tend to > spend lots of time in China Town. I prefer Crispy Duck to Wong Kei's > for simple stuff, but the menu is more limited. Hey The Adrian you eat well, so you come back & tell us what you ate, how it tasted, how good or bad it was etc... that's good enough for us here. Who knows.... i might start a picture gallery soon & people can put up their food pictures so if you have a digital camera, start snapping! that'll get tongues waggling & salivas dripping. wow... you must have lots of tales & a good insight to soho life. I always go, shop, grab a bite if i'm hungry & leave ASAP. WongKei only has 1 dish for me & that's the beef brisket horfun noodle soup (NgaoLam TongHor). Done just like in the old days from all the back street cantonese eateries all over Asia. I've never been to crispy duck, where is it? on gererd st or lisle street or one of the other streets? Did you remember a restaurant called Jen opposite LoonFung supermarket on gerard st. it closed down a few years ago. it had good roast duck in there while it lasted. DC.
