The Punchbowl in Crosthwaite (near Kendal) is excellent and very good value (http://www.punchbowl.fsnet.co.uk/). Chef used to work at Le Gavroche. They have a co-operation with Jerichos in WIndermere (info on website under 'Two of a Kind') Have a look at the Good Pub Guide, as there are lots of Cumbrian 'gastropubs' about these days. I subscribe to the good beer guide, which is obviously more about beer, i'll nip in a bookshop and have a look at the Good pub guide.

Nooks in Grasmere. It has a Michelin star and the food is absolutely wonderful. The thing is, "Gentlemen are required to wear a jacket and tie". This makes the place a bit too formal. Also, going there was a bit like a scene from a dodgy B movie. You know the one where a couple break down miles from anywhere and they see a light on in an isolated building on top of the hill. <sfx> cheap thunder and lightning </sfx> That's the place. I can't fault the food, though. It's an experience. Chris P. From [email removed] Wed Oct 2 06:39:24 EDT 2002 Article: 10271 of uk.food+drink.indian
