Don't want to put anyone off trying these places but do take a look before you commit yourself. Queen Mary is basically a pub, fairly lively. Yes, you are on the River but you're basically in a rowdy pub. Don't know about the Rivers Brasserie.

Apart from the River Room at the Savoy (very classy, very expensive), North of the River is a waste of time for river views in Central London unless you're an MP. If you want to eat on the River in that part of London, try the following (all are South of the River):

People's Palace
Royal festival Hall
South Bank Centre
London SE1
Tel: (0171) 928 9999
Fax: (0171) 928 2355

relatively pricey (approx GBP25 perhead w/out booze). Good food and service. Cavernous room, spectacular views over the River. Perfect for pre or post concert food. Book early and ask for a window table.

Oxo Tower
Basically Harvey Nicholls 5th Floor but on the River. They have a restaurant and a brasserie. Pricey, and you'll need to book well in advance. Why not have a drink at Oxo (catch the view from the terrace) and walk down the riverside to Gabriels Wharf or Peoples Palace? (Book the restaurant).

I don't have the address handy but its just West of Blackfriars bridge, on the South bank. Just look out for the tower with "OXO" on it in red neon.

Gabriel's Wharf.
Not a restaurant itself but a kind of compound with restaurants and bars and other shops. Kind of hippy/new age feel to the place as a whole (a nice change from other riverside places), but the bars and restaurants are not just veggie stuff. There's a Pizza place there, and a brasserie. Very popular on Summer evenings. Reasonably priced (for central London).

It's on the River between Blackfriars and Waterloo Bridges.

Hope this helps someone to have a nice meal.

David
