About a month ago I asked for advice on finding somewhere quiet to have lunch in or around Kensington.

Someone suggested Wheelers and that's where we went, the Kensington High Street one. It's right opposite the Royal Garden Hotel.

It was quiet - music good but subdued - so we could converse easily. Decor harmonious and tasteful, chairs comfortable, very clean everywhere. The food was delightful - all imaginative fish dishes and beautifully presented. There's a good range of wines. The service was excellent.

The same menu applies at lunch and in the evening. My friend and I enjoyed our lunch so much that I took my husband and another friend the same evening. A three course meal and a bottle of wine was less than L20 a head. And it was only a few hundred yards from where we were based for the National Honey Show at Kensington Town Hall. There are other Wheelers in different parts of London.

The following evening we had to eat at a pizza/pasta place, acceptable but nothing like as good as Wheelers in any respect and it cost only L2 a head less.

Thank you very much to whoever suggested this, I can't remember who it was and it's dropped off the bottom of the list of postings.
