I can recommend a superb restaurant called Just Around The Corner, it's on the Finchley Road (but go to Golders Green station, NOT Finchley Road station!!)

It's my favourite restaurant, and SUPERB food (mainly French and Modern European). The service is superb. However, what is unusual about it is that after the meal, you pay what you think it is worth. There are no prices on the menu, you see! So if you thought it was amazing, you pay well. If you thought it was crap, you don't. There is nothing (except your pride) paying little even if you enjoyed it.

Even though I am not flush with money, I always pay well, as when you go back you are made to feel even more welcome, and also it would be embarrassing to pay little after such amazing service.

I like Andrew Edmonds on Lexington Street, west Soho: good food and service in an informal atmosphere. You'll probably need to book in advance though, especially for Friday or Saturday evenings.

Cheers,
      Nat.

I enjoy Melati on Great Windmill Street.
It's Malaysian and the food is interesting (not haut cuisine but perfectly edible).

Try to ensure you get a seat facing the windows on the 1st floor since opposite is a brothel, on warm nights the working girls can sometimes be seen leaning out of the windows wearing next to nothing, otherwise there's usually some "interesting" scenes going on behind curtains... all very amusing :-) Not for the weak stomached mind you (the scenes from the brothel, not the food).

Hi I'd recommend getting the timeout guide if you visit london more than occasioanlly. Alternatively have a look at http://www.andyc.easynet.co.uk/lrd.htm which is my little pet london restaurant database webpage - you can even add your own reviews! Reading the other threads, I quite like Belgo, though the one on Chalk Farm Road (Noord) is better than Centraal.
