The UAE has some of the best food in the world, IMHO. I lived there for a year 2 years ago, but have been traveling there off an on for the last 14 or so years. Since I'm only familiar with restaurants in Dubai here are a few: For the *best* Lebanese food outside Lebanon: Automatic Restaurant. I'd recommend their branch in Jumeirah. They have a *wonderful* buffet that includes vegetarian food; I think this is only on Fridays. The buffet is around Dh. 40 - 50 per head, and the atmosphere is a little on the formal side (but not oppressively so! People are obviously there for the food --it's a very sumptuous buffet). For authentic South Indian food: Woodlands (in Karama): very inexpensive, very good. Extremely casual.

For Thai food:
Bangkok. This is also somewhere near Karama though I don't remember for sure. It's good food. Average prices, average decor.

There are so many places that I can remember having extremely good food at, but unfortunately, I don't remember the names. One of the nicest things about eating out in the UAE is that it is relatively inexpensive. And perhaps the best thing is that they are not catering to one group of peoples' tastes (as is the case in many other countries) so the food is authentic everywhere you go (except at the hotels, perhaps).

Enjoy!
