As much as I love Austin I have to agree for the most part. Kirby Lane, etc... are more emotional than food favorites. However, Chez Zee compares favorably to breakfast places in almost every city I've lived in, including Manhatten, San Francisco, Dallas and Chicago. ...msg

Who has got the best breakfast in town?

The one near Seton Hospital? We ate there one time and swore never again. Terry at Lake Bastrop **********************************************************************

What about House of Guys, er..., Pies, on Kirby? My friends an I would always go there after a night on the town. You're right though, there's virtually nothing else. From my parent's house near Clear Lake to downtown or the Rice/Med. Center/Shepherd/River Oaks area was a good twenty to thirty minute drive. Living in Hyde Park and working just south of the River is _so_ much better. > >i must agree, katz's is an excellent place for breakfast. i recommend >the jewish tacos. sounds weird, tastes great. Katz's is too expensive for casual, stop in and get a bite kind of food. My bill there is never less than $10 or so, for a sandwich, etc. I prefer Magnolia (as an aside, I went to the Kerby Lane on Kerby Lane and remembered why I hadn't been there in months: it was wretched), a good place to get decent food at decent prices. The best value in town is hands down, Tamale
House #3 on Airport Blvd. The $3.50 for
the migas with cheese is phenomenal. Two
meals easily.
Happy eating...

: Kerbey Lane sucks because:
: 1. the waitstaff is invariably stoned and service suffers from it. : 2. anyplace that can mess up coffee is going to mess up your breakfast : 3. anyplace that can mess up their own "famous" gingerbread pancakes (the : waitress agreed that the batter must've gone bad) is going to mess up your : breakfast. : 4. omelettes are uninspired, bland, and occasionally (yech) watery
: I highly recommend Magnolia Cafe for pancakes (gingerbread, regular, : blueberry and--mmm--corn), omelettes, vegeterian items. It's also really : inexpensive.
: Trudy's is a good spot for migas, breakfast tacos, & bloody mary's. The : food is consistently good, and the hot sauce is the best in town. They : feature different gourmet coffees, and the service is usually excellent.
: Starseed Cafe...well, it's off the highway and beats Jims or Wafflehouse : if you're barrelling straight through town, but I would not recommend it : otherwise.
