There is plenty to be had depending what you want to spend!

Steak: Austin Land and Cattle Company (NOT the Texas Land and Cattle Co), Sullivan's or Ruth's Chris Steak House

Margaritas and Sunsets: the Oasis on Lake Travis. (not to be missed, Just don't eat there)

Mexican: Manuel's, Nuevo Leon, El Azteca, there is plenty

Vietnamese: Sea Dragon, Twin Dragon, for pho (noodles): Tan Tan, Pho Cong Ly, NhaTrang

Italian...: Carmelo's, Romano's Macaroni Grille (a chain but good food none the less), For Pizza: Milto's, Reale's, Frank and Angies

Quintesential Austin: Threadgills (traditional texas cooking), Hyde Park Grill (must have the fries), for more upscale: Jeffrey's, Hudson on the Bend, Mother's (vegetarian), Central Market Cafe

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from.

enjoy.

(Forgive me if this gets posted twice, but my system claims user unknown so I am going to say, "yes they are" and send it again...)

Well, that's being done right now in the austin.food newsgroup. "Not available on all systems, call your cable operator and ask for it." One student at UT asked where some good bbq is to take her mother to, who will be in from out of town.
From the responses, it seems that Coopers in Llano, Kreutz's in Lockhart I think, and another one which I forget the name in the same town as Kruetz's. The Pitt in downtown Austin was mentioned, then shotdown by someone who says the new owners don't baste (I assume they are speaking of mopping), anymore while cooking. The Salt Lick seemed to be the most recommended. At least they never mentioned County Line, 'cuz I just don't think they are that good.
I gotta go check out the Salt Lick sometime. It's in a dry county, so it's BYOC (bring your own Celis) and the drive is supposed to be really neat. About an hour through the Texas Hill Country south of Austin.
As for now, this Central Texan has no opinion on the best, but I could rattle off a few I won't go back to, County Line included. But their bread ain't bad. And they've got a neat little framed display of the 1941 line of Heddon Popper fishing lures I'd like to have...
