Tocai....

quoting "J. C. Smith" :

|>> the obviously miffed waitress adjusted the $140 bill by $8....

|> I'm surprised to hear this. I once had cause to send a dish back at Tocai
|>...came back shortly to apologize again, and (without us asking)
|> told us that he'd taken the dish off of our bill.

that's what I'd have expected to happen there, but, obviously, that's
      not what J.C. had experienced.

| Before this we had been regular and frequent Tocai customers, big fans.
|...
| Everyone has a bad night. Given all this we'd probably have gone
| back were it not for the manager's reaction after the paper incident.
|... Whether it was a deliberate snub or not, who knows, but between him
| and the waitress, we took this a little personally...

yep. and I am glad you reported on it here.

next time there, I'll ask them about this incident, and unless I
hear "the right words" this will remain as a black mark on them
in my book; and should I ever have anything similar happen to me,
they'd have struck out, as far as I am concerned, and I wouldn't
go back. I don't let someone else's "bad experience" ruin a place
(that I am fairly happy with) for me, but it clearly reduces the
likelihood that I'd be willing to give "second chances" after I'd
experience something unacceptable (which the incident as described
here clearly would be for me also -- and I'd expect Craig to feel
      similarly about it)

                              Onward...
