SUNDAY BRUNCHES????

Define "really nice." For me, a nice brunch is lots of good food at a moderate price.

For me, these are good:

Trudy's North Star. $6.95 or $7.95 (I forget which). 3 kinds of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, fruit, beans, rice, tortillas, plenty of food. Made-to-order omelets. EXCELLENT

Central Market (original one). $3.99 "taco" bar. 2 kinds of eggs, bacon, sausage, black beans, hash browns. VERY GOOD

Threadgills (south -- don't know about north). $8.95. Only done this one once. 2 kinds of eggs, beans, bacon, sausage, fruit, biscuits and gravy. A few other things that I can't remember right now. Made-to-order omelets. GOOD

Just my input.

I'm fond of Chez Zee. Try the Creme Brulee french toast (they also have challah french toast) or the lemon poppyseed waffle (sounds odd, tastes good). They have a couple of variations on Eggs Benedict.

They have raised prices a couple of times in the last two years. Coffee and an entree usually sets me back $24 including tax & tip, which is pushing the edge of credibility for the amount/quality of food. However, the ambience is nice, especially if you can get a porch table on a pleasant morning (like we did this past week). Failing that, the hallway-like front porch is wonderful for visuals, though a little iffy on noise and climate control due to the placing of overhead heat/ac units. Go early--it starts getting noisy and crowded after 10 or so. I always go as close to opening (9:00) as I can.

A recent article in the New Yorker said that the
average chef sneers at the Sunday brunch crowd.
"Any way you dress it up, $12 for an omelette is
ridiculous" or words to that effect.

It's a favorite outing of mine, so I don't care. :-)

Thanks for the recommendation, I never knew they
served brunch.

: Undeniably "Four Seasons" is Great!! But I'm interested in some basic : Sunday Breakfast fare, you know some Pancakes, some Waffles, some Eggs, : some OJ, some Coffee etc. I know IHOP is probably what I'm defining, but : they don't have a Buffet :o( At least not he ones I've been to within : Austin. I have to IHOP and Shoney's at other places where they had a nice : Buffet and was wondering if anything equivalent to that was available : around here.

I've enjoyed the Sunday brunch at Trudy's. They have traditional breakfast fare, as well as some yummy tex-mex on the buffet.

The old Trudy's further north on S. Lamar closed a long time ago, but the one in the Brodie Oaks shopping center parking lot is still open and doing seemingly well. No buffet breafast there, but I enjoyed the breakfast there the one time that I went.

Not really. Golden Corral is a nice place to graze. Cracker Barrell isn't bad either, if you're willing to put up with the crowd. My favorite, though, is the brunch at Fonda San Miguel.
