I would not consider it for dinner with a date or for a "nice" evening out. It's surprising that in a town like Austin, with all the great places to eat, that Sullivans managed to remain open past the first month.

Sullivans steak house

It's all dark paneling, old money, and huge, thick steaks that are bigger than the plates. Sullivan's only serves traditional sides like creamed spinach and iceberg lettuce salads. Whether or not one thinks the food is favorable depends on what one likes to eat. It's the kind of place I would go about once a year as an indulgence -- heavy beef laden meals aren't my usual thing. It's expensive, but you're paying for atmosphere. If I were taken there on a date, I would be impressed. -KMG p.s. Ringside, Sullivan's bar next door, is a lovely way to start the meal.

Yeah, but a good buzz goes a long way in keeping some places popular for longer than they truly deserve. I enjoyed Sullivan's when I went there for my b-day. The crab cakes were very tasty, the filet mignon perfect, the creme brulee dreamy. The green beans were too crisp (read: raw) for my taste. The potatoes au gratin were delicious but greasy. I was happy that the meat was not as greasy as Ruth's Chris. Lynn
