Thank you.<< > <snip> >So, lets stay casual...Mexican, Italian (good Italian restaurants seem to be everywhere...), Chinese.< Casual it is: Rosario’s, on South Alamo (in SA’s only urban neighborhood), and Los Barrios on Blanco Rd. are my two favorites for Tex-Mex. La Calesa has food from interior Mexico and is in an older home ... very pleasant setting that goes well with the good food. Italian: I like Little Italy for its seafood and the fact that we’re treated as old friends everytime we go in, which is infrequent. As for Chinese, there’s a new restaurant just near Little Italy. It’s called either Pearl Dragon or Dragon Pearl (they’re not in the phone book yet) and has the only fire pot in town. Also good pot stickers. That’s all I can say since we’ve been there only once. I lived in Seattle (and ate in Vancouver) so I’m not as happy with SA Chinese restaurants as I would like to be. And while you’re thinking casual and ethnic, try Schilo’s (SHE-lo’s) Deli (downtown just above the river), at least for lunch. Germans are just as much a part of SA history as any other group, and this place has been around since the crust cooled (and so have most of the waitresses :-)). All of the above are family-run, one-off places. >Does SA have a renowned American restaurant? Good, well-trained chefs?< I hope "American" includes southwest in your view. There are three young chefs who used to work together and who now lead, IMO, the three best kitchens in town: Anaqua Grill, Stetson’s and Biga. >I'd be happy with a well-grilled hamburger.. if it's ground NY Strip. :)< Maybe at Anaqua Grill. >I don't mind paying extra for quality. Any help would be appreciated.< I think you’ll find that your fine-dining dollar will stretch a little longer in SA. That’s even more so for your casual-eats dollar. >Also, are there any decent nightclubs/bars to check out?< That’ll be for someone younger than this OF to answer. just remember, you’re going to visit what in many respects is a big town, not a city in the sense of the big eastern cities. Then again, lots of us moved back here for that very reason. Bring only the ties you’ll need for your meetings. You won’t need them in the evening, especially in June. >Thanks< You’re welcome. I hope you enjoy your visit. David ______________________________________________ David Wright [email removed] San Antonio, Texas My opinions do reflect those of my employer. I'm self-employed.

La Louisianne for French (*** restaurant according to Texas Monthly I believe?) Colin

But that reminds me, I forgot to suggest the Grey Moss Inn for a special evening. Barcelona's Mediterranean Cafe (4901 Broadway) really good food. Try the salmon pate for an appetizer. And Lan's Vietnamese on Fredricksburg. Have to have their spring rolls. Happy eating
