Try puffy tacos if you never have. There are several La Fondas around town, but it is a local chain. Ponchitos in the Tesero building on the north side of town is also good. I miss Luby's cafeterias the most since I've moved to the northwest. They just don't have cafeterias up here. Don't let the fact that it is a cafteria scare you off. I guarantee the food is great. I miss their vegetables. The newspaper often ran their recipes due to readers requests. Grady's on Fredricksburg Rd. has the best bar-b-que in town, although it's not fancy or one of the big fancy chains like Tony Roma's. Also County Line on Hwy.1604 is good as is Tom's Ribs on Nacadoches Rd. For French food the best is Chez Ardiz, but it's also one of the most expensive places in town. It's in an old Victorian Home and is a very established restaurant. Hope this helps, Shirley

Go for Breakfast or lunch. >The Sauerkraut is a must, even if you don't usually like it. I second that suggestion, and for another restaurant celebrating San Antonio's ethnically-diverse past, try Joe Kennedy's Irish Pub and Restaurant just down the street. Also, for Tex-Mex try Rosario's in Southtown (near King William district). This time of year is great for eating outside and the Grey Moss Inn is a fine place for that (good thing you have a car, since it's a few miles north in the hill country). David
