Hi Ed,

I'm a native of San Antonio now living in Florida and attending the
University of Florida. And one of the things I miss most about San Antonio is the awesome food-Tex-mex, BBQ, etc.etc. Once you get settled in head down to the Riverwalk-there are quite a few restaurants along the walk featuring different fares and prices. Each restaurant has a fun, unique atmosphere. The riverwalk is especially enjoyable in the evening when the weather is a little cooler. The Republic of Texas is one of my favorites. Also a good place for sandwiches is Shilo's-not far from the riverwalk. I hope you enjoy your visit to my favorite city-don't forget to stop by the Alamo! -Susannah

To hell with upscale. If you want real food try Schilo's, the best

Deli and German food you're gonna find, period. It's downtown

right above the riverwalk on Commerce Street. For the best American

food I know of, go to the Tip Top Cafe out on Fredricksburg Road

Open since 1938. The onion rings and pie are fantastic, as is

everything else. If you want to know more, I'll send a list to you

There are some well kept secrets in S.A., I don't want any of them

to become trendy, Dig?

Try Babylon, a funky Middle Eastern tinged place in the King William section, Biga--an expensive eclectic place with a great wine list, and an Italian place that backs up on Biga--I forget the name.

You should also try the soups at El Mirador.

Have a good time.

Here's a great second for El Mirador. Only open for lunch as I recall. The line forms early before lunch and when the soups gone... the soup is gone. Ask the locals for the best time to get there. Close to the river walk but by auto not walking. It is a great experience.
