Info on San Antonio Restaurants I've been to San Antonio many times and haved enjoyed it immensely. The Riverwalk has some great restaurants. If you like Mexican (which I adore) you will like the restaurant called "The Original". There is also another mexican restaurant that I liked with the word "Patio" in it. Not hard to find, I just can't remember the name. If you like Sunday brunch, Holiday Inn on the Riverwalk has a restaurant over the river that serves a great buffet for an affordable price. The Stetson restaurant in the Hyatt Hotel has fine dining and you need reservations. The Little Rhine Restaurant is in a perfect spot to sit outside and watch the shows across the river at the Arneson Theatre (just don't eat there when it is raining! They serve steaks and such but it is expensive. We ate at the "Old Bayou" I think it's called. It's supposed to be the best cajun restaurant around but the portions we got were a tad small. Right off of the Riverwalk in the Hotel Menger, there is a bar where Teddy Rosevelt recruited his "rough riders". There is also a nice restaurant there. If you have time, I would visit the Mexican Market. It is a flea market, has specialty stores which are very interesting, mexican shows which are absolutely a must see!, and great Restaurants. There is one you can sit outside that has* wonderful* mexican food. You can also watch mexicans cook authentic mexican (american style) in booths in the streets. Yes I am hooked on the Mexican food there, but that atmosphere is perfect for that stuff. You otta take the cheap ride in the riverboats around sundown! Sure hope I gave you some good ideas. These ideas, of course, are just what appealed to me. Have fun! [email removed]

Restaurants in San Antonio
I just returned from a quick weekend trip to San Antonio.... I received some wonderful suggestions from this newsgroup ( will you have a car?) La Fogata (Mexican)--- wonderful atmosphere, great mole, sopa de pollo, and friendly waitstaff! I'm a Spanish teacher and the waiters were hanging around me, conversing, bringing extra tastes of their wonderful food (Their salsa at the table is worth the price to take a jar home!) Bob's Smokehouse--- fabulous Texas barbecue in a real interesting building. Hard to find, but just look for the Cadillacs, Mercedes, cheveys, etc. mixing it up in the parking area. Really funky place, but the best barbecue in S.A. (so I'm told, and can agree with) Cappy's (or Kappy's) on Broadway- terrfic rambling little place, again hard to find, but great atmosphere with terrific pecan crusted catfish and other specialties. This place again was highly recommended and well worth the trip. for other gourmet treats, try the H.E.B. Market on Broadway ( a very upscale grocery store)... I was impressed with the section devoted just to salsas and hot sauces, with TEXAS products clearly marked. A helluva lot cheaper there than on the Riverwalk or any tourist area markets. I loaded up there (took home about two dozen different bottles! they also have a wonderful take out section and a fantastic bakery! Enjoy yourself! It is a great city!
