Went to the new Poo Thai a week ago. I had heard some negatives but decided I needed to make my own mind. My overall impression was that it was somewhat different but good and worth another try.

My wife and another couple were twice a month visitors to the old Poo Thai and enjoyed the repartee with SamPon. I miss it but think the new owners deserve a try.

I'm comment-worthy on 3:

Satay: For years our overall best Asian restaurant experience in Austin. Consistent quality. Professional, knowledgeable waitstaff. The Hor Mok appetizer is unbelievable. Small portions in some dishes. Clearly our favorite.

Thai Passion: Ate there last night. Their chef used to work at Satay, and the two places seem to hold a high opinion of each other. Mee Grob is the best I've had. Many wonderful dishes, but occasionally they've disappointed us. Larger portions than Satay. Open a little later than most, till 10:30 weeknights.

Thai Kitchen William Cannon: We've had some outstanding dishes tere, and some downright inedible ones. Service is poor to the extreme, and the atmosphere cramped and dingy compared to the other two. The killer for us is the under-peopled, untrained waitstaff, that has soured too many of what otherwise would've been pleasant experiences for us to go back very often.

My wife stopped and brought home food from Poo Thai. We ordered chicken larb, a beef cucumber and cilantro dish, and a salad with peanut dressing and tofu. It was great. You have to specify the degree of heat or it is too mild, stay away from "the way Phil likes it".

If you haven't been back it's worth the visit.
