Very good I agree that Chuy's is good quality food, but it is considered a college/yuppie hangout by most "real" Texans. My personal favorite Austin Tex-Mex place is called Tio Tito's and is in east Austin. This is a place where hispanic families go to eat home style mexican food. Taco Village and Joe's Bakery are also good. Elita's Fajitas on Guadelupe has great fajitas but, like Chuy's, the only hispanics you'll see there will be employees (unless you happen to go when my wife is there with me). Mexican food in Austin
Fonda San Miguel is excellent Mexican food (from the interior of Mexico as opposed to Tex-Mex). There are dozens and dozens of Tex-Mex places here and it seems everyone has a different favorite... you'll just have to try them all! :-) Catharine

Their tacos are great (they make they're corn tortillas) and I like their carne guisada. It may not be "interior" mexican, but it's not tex-mex either. David
I generally think the best is to be found east of I-35. Accordingly, pick up this weeks Austin Chronicle which has a whole pullout on the Eastside of Austin including EVERY place to eat. My favorite is El Azteca. I've been eating there since 1963 even when the "Big Four" were all going strong in Austin. Try eating at Jaimie's, Baby A's, ZTejas, Papasitos, El Arroyo, Compadres....take these from a Mexican food lover! Tammy [email removed] >Tim L. wrote: > > Does anybody know of a GOOD mexican food place in Austin? I haven't been > able to find one. Chuy's and Jorge's don't count. > >

And Ninfa's on 6th (the one run by the family, not the old Ninfa's chain run by Serranos.)... world class Tex-Mex, great food and drink specials. The Chronicle reviewed them both a couple of weeks ago: http://www.auschron.com/issues/vol17/issue39/food.ninfas.html Cisco's on 6th for huevoes rancheros con fafitas and silky refritos.

Nothing fancy, but the food is great. Tim L. wrote: > > Does anybody know of a GOOD mexican food place in Austin? I haven't been > able to find one. Chuy's and Jorge's don't count.
