I'm not disputing your view, but I've tried a far number of of Austin's TexMex offerings, and I really haven't found one I'm completely happy with. (I used to be happy with Curra's Grill, but they seemed to have slipped a great deal over the last 18 months.)

Also, to avoid bringing up that eternal thread, I'm _not_ looking for "Authentic" Mexican food, or Interior Mexican" cusine. I'm looking for (in your words) "Killer Tex Mex," with tasty and above average fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, tacos, etc.

Among the best I've found are:

Pappasito's (though they're a chain and a bit pricey) Ninfa's (ditto) Serrano's (ditto, but less consistant between locations) El Borrego de Oro Armanda's Taquerito Arturo's Tio Tito's La Palapa Amaya's Taco Village Matt's El Rancho El Patio

In the "OK but overrated" catagory I'd put:
Cheuy's
El Arroyo
Geuro's
El Mercado

In the "nothing special/I'd rather eat Taco Cabana" catagory I'd put: Antonio's Flores Iron Cactus Menudo's Tres Amigo's

In the "don't bother/I'd rather eat Taco Bell" catagory I'd put: La Parilla El Ray

Trudy's?! Ack, Mandi, how could you fit that anglo fern bar and Dos Hermanos in the same list? <vbg> :-)

OK, today's current favorites:

Dos Hermanos (the real thing w/ just the right sheen of grease on the enchiladas, best fajitas) Taqueria Arandas (lengua, pozole, $2 migas, homemade flan) Cisco's Bakery (the only refritos I've ever craved... great breakfasts)

Least favorites.... dozens. Among the seemingly most popular places that, imho, stink are:

Chuy's (worst overall)
Trudy's (terrible salsas, bland recipes)
Matt's El Rancho (sadly, once one of the best)
Pappasito's (who cares?) :-)

Um, I gotta say, YIPES, Lawrence! Papasito's, Ninfa's (downtown), Matt's and El Patio are among my 'avoid at all costs!' tex-mex places.

Among _my_ personal favourites:

Las Manitas
Tamale House on Airport
Guero's
Los Comales
Trudy's Texas Star
Dos Hermanos

And I'd rate the following as 'pretty good':

Miguel's
El Azteca

How about the rest of you? Rank em! :)
