Actually, the Brennan family in New Orleans is composed of two groups who don't get along with each other.

The Houston Brennan's is excellent as are La Colombe d'Or, La Tour d'Argent, Tony's, Charley's 517, Riviera Grill..............etc etc etc. These are some of the upscale places. Houston has an enormous number of restaurants in all categories and price ranges. Zagat's Survey lists about 1100 of them, and it doesn't begin to scratch the surface. According to a fairly recent survey, Houston's population eats out an average of over 3 times a week.

some places close to the Galleria that I consider "good" are:

Berryhill's on Post Oak.
    excellent fish tacos
Dimassi's on Richmond
middle eastern fare, middle of the road prices.
Jake's Philly Cheese Steaks on Chimney Rock
try the chicken #2. great stuff.. wash down with beer.
Sammy's Lebanese on Richmond
friendly service, good food, pricey soft drinks and no freakin free
refills.
Ragin' Cajun on Richmond
Cajun fare....ah the po-boys...but if you want po-boys
Goode Co. Seafood on Westpark.
not too far from the Galleria area but great seafood.
Goode Co. Taqueria, Goode Co. BBQ
    Goode Co. anything is awesome!
Cafe Express on Post Oak
good, honest cafe fare. tasty burgers, great salads and pasta!

Now if money is no problem, then treat yourself to these places!

America's on Post Oak
modern, trendy and fine south american cuisine!
Cafe Annie on Post Oak
    award winning dining. a treat.
Pappa's Bros. Steakhouse on Westheimer
    big time $teak$ and cee-gars
Anthony's on Westheimer
    Upscale continental.

just to name a few............
someone else's idea of a "good" restaurant will vary... and there are so many "good" places to choose from! Honest.

try http://pgsa.rice.edu/~dbadmin/ for a good list of restaurants. Houston Interactive Restaurant Database hosted by Rice University.

Enjoy your stay in Houston, good luck picking out places to eat! It'll be fun.

happy eatin'
