Try Threadgill's on North Lamar for down home cooking (but don't take American Express because they don't take it--they were featured in a VISA commercial). Their food is really good. For pizza try Brick Oven Pizza on Red River and for Mexican try Chuy's Comida Deluxe on Barton Springs Road. Also Eastside Cafe for regular food but I don't remember the address. These are all cheap to moderately priced restaurants. I'm out of touch with the high end ones. Enjoy!

Threadgill's on Lamar--good home cookin'

Sam's BBQ--excellent ribs, brisket, spicy

Las Manitas--great Tex Mex, fajitas, breakfast

Evitas--Tex'Mex, best salsas, maybe six or eight at your table

Castle Hill Cafe

Stonewall

Mileiu

Brenham's Cafe

All the above serve "eclectic southwest" for lack of a better description. Menus are not fixed. Also check out the Texas Monthly magazine restaurant reviews on other Austin restaurants at http://www.texasmonthly.com/resto/central.html#Austin.
