For a quality hamburger, it's tough to beat Hut's Hamburgers on 6th street in Austin, TX. Twenty+ different types of burgers, incredible black pepper and cornmeal onion rings, Wed. night is two for one, and chicken or buffalo can be substituted for the beef. Not to mention a real cozy atmosphere.

I vote for O'Connell's in South St. Louis. It's been about 10 years but they make a burger that I once took a 200 mile detour for. Too bad it happened to be the one weekend in 5 years that they were closed. Argh!!

Anyone know if they're still around?

The best hamburgers I have had were at Melvin's in Elizabethtown NC. They are well-known throughout the eastern portion of the state. It started out as a pool hall that served hamburgers to those playing pool, but the burgers were so good they became most of their business, and they closed the pool tables down altogether and now just sell hamburgers and cheeseburgers.
