I have tried many - but when I get a Fran's burger it tops them all! Kathy Lawrence P. wrote: >Another question for eternal debate: Who makes the best hamburger in >Austin? Best Hamburger in Austin?
NNTP-Posting-Date: Mon, 05 Apr 1999 13:01:50 CDT Xref: pale-rider.INS.CWRU.Edu austin.food:4427 Recently enjoyed a delicious one at District Bar& Grill on 6th.. good meat and veggies (even a carrot spear), grileld poppy seed bun. I was addicted to Katz's burgers for a while. Really addicted, like three times a week. Much better than their deli sandwiches, imho:) -- jan Lawrence P. wrote: >Another question for eternal debate: Who makes the best hamburger in >Austin? Here it is . . .Hillberts on Lamar near 35th. The best chili-cheeseburger ANYWHERE!!!!! (especially with jalapenos) -Dan Lawrence P. wrote: > Another question for eternal debate: Who makes the best hamburger in > Austin? I don't know if I'd call it "the best" but I was quite surprised to find that the burger at La Renya on S. First is pretty darned good and pretty darned cheap (as I recall...). cheers, kate
Personally, the best I've had is at Aussie's. It's large (1/2 pound, I believe) and the bacon cheeseburger is the best I've ever had. The bacon has been perfect every time for me. The $1 all-the-time Miller Lite or frozen margs help wash it all down. (Can you tell I go there quite a bit?) Just one opinion. For me , that's a burger: buttery toasted bun, perfectly melted cheese, just the right amount of grease--gets me every time. For me, either Dan's or Fran's. If one is in a hurry, Short Stop (especially the one at 183 and Spicewood Springs) does a decent job, too.

Last time I had one it was excellent. I also like Burger Tex, Shady Grove (though haven't been there in a while)= , Nau's Pharmacy, Chumikal's, Hyde Park Bar & Grill and, don't let me forge= t Artz Rib House on S. Lamar. Hut's is as good as any. For a small burger, Crown & Anchor achieves the perfect grease balance. Comes with a big basket of fries for cheap and a pretty good beer selection. Otherwise, Casino El Camino is probably the best late night burger. Hyde Park B&G is all right. Fran's/Dan's are always crowd pleasers, too. Katz's deserves at least an honorable mention, though they lag just a bit in the price:performance analysis.
He's right, though. Seems there should be better burgers here. Nobody here has the definitive killer burger. Let's see, killer burgers, real Chicago style hot dogs and polishes with all the trimmings, Italian beef, sausage and meatballs with real giardeniera on good French rolls, great fries and shakes...
Ya think a place like that could do any business? Maybe make a few bucks?
Cheers,
