Al Capone's North

Just a quick plug for Al Capone's up north off of IH 35 exit 250. The family went there for dinner last night, I'd never been to an Al Capone's before (I believe it's a chain?) and it was very much a last-minute choice.

My first thought was "gee, this is a bit on the expensive side". But when the food came, I thought it was a good value: The chicken breast in Roberta's chicken parmesan was the largest I think I've ever seen. My Al Capone Special (I think that's the name) was a big plate of yummy cream sauce over wide noodles with plump shrimp. Everything was very tasty, and the service was great: for example, I had to take my daughter Panda to the bathroom for an extended visit, when I came back to the table my entree had been sitting untouched for several minutes. Without my asking, the waiter asked if he might take the dish back to the kitchen to be "freshened up". I thought this was great. In fact, the entire staff was quite attentive and helpful. And, I might add, child-friendly.

In short: recommended, and we'll definitely be back.

Oh, I forgot the antipasto: I'd never had antipasto with cantaloupe before, and if someone mentioned it to me, I'd be highly skeptical. But it was great!

The only one I've been to is the one on Anderson Lane. I think I saw one down on Barton Springs Road.

They put a little class in the presentation of there fare. I mean, it just plain LOOKS good before you even take the first bite.
