My favorite is Mary's BBQ, although it's closer to Meharry than Vandy...
There are a number of excellent restaurants in the area around Vanderbilt. My favorite is the Sunset Grill. Others that are worth trying are Faison's, The Boundary, and the Cakewalk Cafe. If you are interested in something less expensive try the Calypso Cafe or South Street.

I think you miss the LoveLESS Motel. >Italian = Marios You might check out the recent review in _The Nashville Scene_ (http://www.nashscene.com/) before going to Mario's. Haven't been there in MANY years myself, but let's just say it was a terrible review. -- // Adam Fagen ([email removed]) | "Discovery consists of seeing \\ Dept. of Molecular & Cellular Biology | what everybody has seen and // Harvard University | thinking what nobody has \\ http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~afagen/ | thought." --A. It's a great place and it's in Nashville. If you have time to kill and want to drive a while go up 31E to Just outside Glasgow, Ky and eat at Barren River Sports Center, it's a bait shop but they got a helluva shoulder plate for $4.50 / bucks. Or might meander down to Bowling Green Ky and stop at the Smokey Pig on the Bypass.......Good Eating, GG The Well of Souls
Wild Boar would be my choice.....they have 3 stars with Mobile, once they were 4 stars but I think they changed chefs....They also have a wonderful wine list . Wine Spectator always ranks it VERY high Second choice would be Arthurs...that is also wonderful and has 3 or 4 stars from Mobil.....
Someone wrote: > >I will have one Sat evening in Feb free for a dinner in Nashville, near >the Vandy campus, I hope. Any recomendations? Sunset Grill in the Vandy area has consistently good food and service. Prices are not outrageous, and they have a good wine list. Make a reservation for a Saturday night (615)386-3663. S.
Real close to the campus is a Italian restraunt called Mario's. Very good but very expensive. Something almost as good is Merchant's located downtown about 2 miles from Vanderbilt. Merchant's is a bit more affordable. Bon appetite! A few years ago, there were charges that they were substituting other meats for the veal, doing some switches on wines, etc. Even went so far that, when an unfavorable review came out in the Nashville Scene, they supposedly removed copies of the publication. You can probably find this stuff in the archives at www.nashvillescene.com (or it might be www.nashscene.com). I would second the recommendation for Sunset Grill instead. www.sunsetgrill.com for the menu.
The original Houston's is located near there. Fantastic bbq ribs (pork from Denmark according to our waitress).
The original Houston's restaurant is in Nashville. Great restaurant.

The Cooker (several locations) offers upscale Southern/American fare (killer sides...bring back the fried corn on the cob!!!). A trip to Loveless cafe for breakfast would be worth the effort.

Their are a few nice Restaurants there, The Prime Cut ( cook your own steak house) and The old Spaghetti Warehouse and one the is a fondue house which I cant remember the name...There is also Houlihans Bar with killer Irish Fare... Enjoy your trip Jerry Lee S. wrote: > In article , Greg Minsky > Someone wrote: > > > Going to Nashville in two weeks, what are the great finds? > > The Cooker (several locations) offers upscale Southern/American fare > (killer sides...bring back the fried corn on the cob!!!). There are some really classy restaurants here in Nashville. The Merchants Restaurant downtown -- they have a website The Capitol Grille downtown in the Hermitage Hotel Quails in Brentwood Sunset Grill (was closed a while ago for renovations, not sure if they're open again yet), near Vanderbilt The Orchid -- a Thai restaurant in Paddock Place on White Bridge Road Sharon

I went to Nashville last year and a local directed me to a bbq place named BarbeCutie. Cheesy name, cheesy-looking restaurant, very good bbq (I think they had brisket and pork, I had the pork of course!) Lots of veggies. Okay, this isn't exactly cuisine, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine.

A breakfast at the Loveless Cafe is great, but it is hard to find. Another great place is the International Market....it is a Thai cafeteria near Belmont College. And The Gerst House has great German food. On Sat, 25 Mar 2000 03:57:55 GMT, Greg Minsky wrote: >Going to Nashville in two weeks, what are the great finds? >
