Went to Benkay at the hotel Nikko this week. (Making up for going to the Bulls opener without her this Fri!) Sat in the sushi bar and received friendly, but spotty service. We were brought the wrong beer and the appetizer came between her sushi order and mine. Fish was as fresh as could be, portions were large enough, but presentation was lacking. Prices were almost double Sai Cafe and more than double Kotobuki, but the quality was comprable. The highlight was a pricey sake we ordered. There are several listed and we tried the Hanasaika. Very floral, incredibly smooth! $12/glass and $58/bottle. I'm sure these prices included standard restaurant markup. Anyone know where to purchase the stuff? Also, it was served cold in a tall wine glass. :-0 Anyone have knowledge on serving sake? Also, the simmered flat fish appetizer was a meal itself. Wonderfully tender, delicately spiced in a light soy broth. (Gave her the cheeks of course.) Haven't seen this elsewhere in chicago. Oh yeah, they only validated half the $14 valet charge.
